VfL Bochum will face former club SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the DFB Cup. Maximilian Wittek is on the road to recovery after a thigh injury. He hopes to return to training with the team at the start of the new season and be ready to start the season better than last year. The match against Fürth will be a tough one, but Wittek is looking forward to it. He played for Fürth for three years between 2017 and 2020, scoring five goals in 88 appearances. After a stint at Vitesse Arnheim, he joined VfL Bochum in 2023. In the final stages of the previous season, a thigh injury forced him to watch from the sidelines. Wittek is currently on Mallorca, working on his comeback. I'm on the road to recovery, he said. I have physiotherapeutic support here, I'm regularly in treatment and I'm training here as much as possible. It won't be an easy task, even though VfL Bochum won two games against the later relegation opponent Rot-Weiss Essen last season. In the first leg, they won 3-0 in Fürth, and in the second leg, they won 2-1 at the Castroper Straße. Wittek provided three assists in both games. But it's a new season, new players. That will be no easy task, he said. We'll just have to see if we can make it to the second round of the cup. That's our clear goal.
