Kleine-Bekel, who was loaned out to St. Gallen last season and scored one goal in 16 league appearances, has extended his contract with VfL until 2029. As a central player in a three-man defense, the 23-year-old defender from Bielefeld impressed in the club of German coach Enrico Maaßen. In the upcoming season, Kleine-Bekel will not wear the VfL jersey, but will play on loan for the Swiss vice-champion and cup winner. Kleine-Bekel will compete with St. Gallen, which also features former Bochum player Lukas Daschner, for a spot in the Europa League. The 1.92-meter-tall defender, who was trained in the youth of Borussia Dortmund, joined VfL in the summer of 2025 after a long injury break from Holstein Kiel.
