VfL Bochum loses one of its biggest talents: Cajetan Lenz leaves the club in the summer and joins TSG Hoffenheim. The 19-year-old, who comes from the club's own youth academy, is thus moving to the Bundesliga and ending his time with the Revierklub. However, VfL Bochum itself announces that the transfer has brought in high revenue. The exact amount is not specified by the club. The media reports a double-digit million euro transfer fee. VfL Bochum is still proud of the youngster's development. The club particularly highlights his path through all the youth teams in the talent factory. Early on, he was considered a promising player for the professional team. The breakthrough was consistent: in the summer of 2025, Lenz signed his first long-term professional contract. He then established himself directly as a regular player and showed strong performances throughout the season. Simon Zoller, Director of Licensed Football, says: „Cajetan is the prime example of the path that is essential for VfL“. CEO Ilja Kaenzig also finds clear words for the farewell. „We are proud of the development Cajetan has taken since the U17 at VfL“. Chairman of the board Andreas Luthe speaks of an important step for the future. „It's always a shame to lose an outstanding player, but the transfer of Cajetan and the associated revenue is important for the development of VfL“. According to reports, VfL will receive ten million euros in transfer fees, with an additional one and a half million euros in bonus payments possible.
